Show Me Math engages students in basic arithmetic equations that use numbers from 1 to 20. Settings allow customization of each student’s experience, including options to display equations on a whiteboard or blackboard, set the maximum number used in the equations to 10 (20 is the default and limit), and arrange the equations horizontally or vertically. Scanning is also available for students using switch-accessible apps.
Quiz and Practice sessions are available. In Quiz, feedback is not provided on whether the answer is correct or incorrect. The selected answer is recorded, and the next equation is presented. In Practice, equations must be answered correctly before the next equation is displayed. When the answer is correct, a pleasant tone plays, and a new equation appears. When the answer is incorrect, a gentle error tone is played, and the current equation remains until the correct answer is selected. During Practice, the student can watch an animated video that illustrates the equation. They can choose to watch: quick-moving ants, rotating beans, stationary ping-pong balls, or grazing sheep. A feature available in Settings allows the animated characters to count aloud.
Equation answers can be submitted in multiple ways: choose from the number line, select an answer from multiple choices, draw the numbers in the answer box with a finger or mouse, or type the answer using a keyboard.
Details from participation in Practice and Quiz sessions are saved and can provide useful data for IEPs.
